The
agitating students in eastern Indian state of Jharkhand recently scored a major
victory after the JMM-Congress state government accepted all their demands. The
win was sealed in favour of the students after state chief minster and
JMM(Jharkhand Mukti Morcha) supremo Hemant Soren made an announcement in this
regard. The students staged their protest in the state’s capital city Ranchi
for nearly a month
The
Jharkhand students’ this success has assumed significance for multiple reasons.
It was far different than a similar students’ agitation sponsored by the
cockroach party in national capital New Delhi recently. In fact, analysts have
already started comparing both the protest agitations with majority of
them(analysts) expressing opinion that the Ranchi agitation was far more decent
and appropriate than the New Delhi one.
The Jharkhand
students demonstrated to their counterparts in rest of the country that a
successful protest can be organised without the support and assistance of
organisations like the cockroach party neither one needs the backing of
mainstream political outfits. India’s opposition political parties who had
extended their all out support to the New Delhi student stir nor the cockroach
outfit which had sponsored it had failed to turn up in Ranchi despite scores of
media reports in this regard. Their no show in Jharkhand capital provided an
excellent opportunity to the opposition’s critics and detractors to insist that
they( the cockroach and opposition leaders) did not intentionally extended
their support to the Ranchi protest because there was a non-BJP government in Jharkhand. The critics
further allege that the opposition’s ‘’double standard’’ confirmed the fact
that the New Delhi agitation was not a students’ protest but a well- orchestrated
Nepal and Bangladesh like plan to topple the Narendra Modi led BJP government
which miserably failed except achieving a minor success with the resignation of
the then education minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
The
students of Jharkhand during the Ranchi event managed to send another important
message to the rest of the country. That is the aggrieved students can organise
a successful agitation without using bad mouth and scolding any political leader
or organisation in filthy and nasty languages. During cockroach sponsored New
Delhi protest, it may be recalled, a section of the participants were caught on
camera scolding the 75-year-old Indian Prime Minster Modi in most filthiest and
dirty language. They even did not spare his late mother. What was most
disturbing was the manner in which abuses were hurled at Indian armed forces.
Some protesters did not hesitate to display their private parts in public. The
gutter like behaviour of participants forced many people in India to believe
that it was actually not a students’ protest but something else which was
organised with a sinister intention.
‘’The participants at the New Delhi event were
lucky to be born in India. In any other country, they would have been heavily
punished for what they did and found themselves behind the bars’’ commented a senior
analyst.
